Boston Herald reviews “Death Hoax”
It’s been a long time since artists channeled the Band like the Curtis Mayflower does on “Death Hoax.” Yes, Craig Rawding’s voice can recall the warm timbre of Levon Helm’s, but the real link seems deeper. It seems spiritual. Just as the Band once did, this local act realizes Americana can be funky (“Shadow Mountain Worship Team”) and soul can be rootsy (“Cold Surprise”). But most importantly, the Curtis Mayflower knows songs matter most. – Jed Gottlieb – Boston Herald
